Screeds and leveling measures for high loads

How do we choose the type of substrate to which we will apply the finishing and protective layers?

Following the explanations about the type and quality of concrete required for industry , it is important to understand and characterize the type of infrastructure that should be finished with a coating, cladding or paint, or perhaps should remain exposed at all.

According to the client's requirements or designer's specifications and with an understanding of the conditions that will operate on the surface, a characterization of the type of infrastructure is required. Acute questions that should be asked at this stage: Is leveling required? Pouring concrete slopes? Required speed in application? Long downtimes?

Today, materials such as self-leveling screeds and "screed" floors allow us to perform additional applications on the surface quite quickly. In castings that range in thicknesses up to 40 mm, polymer coatings can be applied within a period of no more than 48 hours from the moment the screed/screed casting is completed. In "standard" stone surfaces, the waiting time for applying additional finishing layers is usually no less than 21 days.

In recent years, more and more screed surfaces have been seen, those surfaces (sometimes extremely thin) that are poured over the structural concrete and allow for the repair of the concrete surface in order to achieve further application of finishing materials on them. Sometimes they are also left exposed.

The advantage of pouring these types of screed lies in the speed of application as well as the initial strengths and readiness of the surface for further application of protection.

In the same way, it is also possible to make leveled foundation surfaces with fast-setting materials. Here too, the maximum time for applying an additional layer does not exceed 48 hours from the moment the leveling material is poured.

Many tend to think that self-leveling material is a brittle material that cannot bear weight and loads under heavy and aggressive traffic. The progress made over the past decade has taught us that there are materials on the market that refute this preconceived notion regarding the high strength and usability that can be obtained from the application of self-leveling material.

All of these features allow for the execution of "flash" projects. Projects of this type require careful advance planning for the work. In combination with rapid coating materials, it is possible to pour leveling material / slope concrete and quick repairs, thus disabling the floor activity for the shortest possible time. During a short downtime, about dozens of hours, it is possible to start using the final floor and return to work.

In order to achieve fast bonding and hardening properties, the various bonding materials contain catalysts as well as an optimally graded aggregate composition. For this reason, the application must be carried out by teams trained in this type of work, as the margin for error and correction is almost non-existent.

Our company offers solutions that include planning and execution of casting or overall execution planning from the bedding stage to the final finishing of the floor. The company is a certified implementer of the material suppliers. The company's teams are accompanied by representatives of the manufacturers in the various projects and undergo periodic certification to refresh advanced construction methods.
